The purchase of Fiskerikajen is the third acquisition made by Swedish company Nordward in a short space of time. The deal requires the approval of the Danish Competition Authority and is expected to be finalised in early February. The acquisition helps Nordward to consolidate its position as the Nordic region’s largest service partner in fish and shellfish.

“This acquisition makes Nordward a clear market leader in fine dining in Denmark. It is a natural step for our future positioning in Stockholm and provides us with a greater opportunity for growth within fine dining,” says Mikael Salenstedt, CEO of Nordward.

Fiskerikajen is the largest operator by size in Copenhagen and supplies the very top tier of restaurants in Denmark, including most of its Michelin-starred establishments. The company has a focus on exclusive products, which are a good complement to the rest of the group’s range.

“We have over 16 unique varieties of oyster and we are the exclusive supplier of GASTROunika’s caviar, which is used in Denmark’s leading Michelin-starred restaurants. This means we can bring new product knowledge and specialist expertise in fine dining to the group,” says Simon Prause, part-owner of Fiskerikajen and former celebrity chef.

The partnership will enhance Fiskerikajen’s opportunities for success.

“Together, we can focus even more on developing sustainability within the industry. This is a huge opportunity to create positive and lasting changes – for the benefit of the fish, fishermen and the environment,” says Jesper Redecker Hansen, part-owner of Fiskerikajen and former celebrity chef.

In the summer, Nordward also acquired Copenhagen Seafood, one of the leading suppliers of fish and shellfish to fine dining establishments in Copenhagen. A short time later followed the acquisition of Danish company FSG Foods (Flying Seafood), Denmark’s largest supplier of fish and other produce to the sushi market.
