Sustainability is part of Nordward’s backbone

UPDATE: It is with great pleasure that Nordward is able to present
Jesper Redecker Hansen in the newly created role of Nordward’s
Chief Sustainable Officer.

2022.09.26

At Nordward we acknowledge that the future of humanity is inseparably connected to the welfare of the world’s ecosystems. We can only expect to have a functioning modern society, by also having rich and thriving natural surroundings. That is why we at Nordward, being a 1st in line modern food service partner, strive to incorporate the utmost respect of our environment in every part of our organisation.

By including Jesper Redecker Hansen in the Nordward Executive Management Team we ensure that all overall decisions on a strategic as well as practical level will be made with consideration to their environmental implications.

“We have no doubt that Jesper will add a vital boost of energy and dedication to our common sustainability effort,” says CEO of Nordward Mikael Salenstedt and continues: “With this appointment we ensure that every decision we make, from the most overall strategic ones to the everyday choice between buying one product instead of another, is made having sustainability in mind.”

Jesper Redecker Hansen has already served as Sustainability Manager of Nordward since September of last year. During this time he has outlined the sustainability strategy of the organisation, which is described in our Sustainability Report 2021 – you can read it here:

And in Jesper’s own words: “I am very proud to be part of a company that is willing to evolve and develop new and more sustainable ways to bring fish and seafood products to the consumer. We have taken many important steps on our journey, but there is still a lot of work to be done. I’m proud to be a driving force in this process.”

Jesper is also one of the founders of the Nordward company Fiskerikajen, where he has helped to shift the general focus towards sustainable fishing in Denmark by supporting low impact coastal fisheries. This engagement will continue as we firmly believe that by investing in these coastal fisheries, we are committing ourselves to the future of the fishing industry. Through focus on low impact fishing methods we help ensure that fisheries adapt to the natural surroundings and are selective and agile in their approach to landing sustainable catch from local waters.

The overall goal of Nordward is clear: Nordward aims to be the preferred partner in sustainable seafood and sushi. Both for our customers and for our suppliers – and ultimately for the sea.
